Send the OSU Wind Ensemble to Taiwan!

About the Project:

The Oregon State University Wind Ensemble is traveling to Taiwan this spring to represent Oregon State University and America at the All-Chinese Band Contest in Taipei. Only one band from America is selected each year to participate. We will be traveling April 27th through May 3rd for an incredible opportunity to share music with others across the world. This project helps fund our students to be able to travel!

About the Ensemble:

Conducted by Dr. Christopher Chapman, the Oregon State University Wind Ensemble is a 43-member ensemble that features the most outstanding brass, woodwind, and percussion players on campus. Students in the ensemble are composed of all ages and majors, and perform music at a professional level locally, nationally, and internationally. We rehearse only two times a week on Tuesday and Thursdays from 3:30pm - 5:20pm in Benton Hall, and perform approximately 5 concerts per academic year.

The focus of this ensemble is to explore new literature and perform the masterworks of the wind band ensemble genre. The group's latest commissions and consortium partnerships include works by award winning composers Billy Childs, Dana Reason, Kevin Walczyk, Gregory Youtz, Michael Coolen, DJ Sparr, James Mobberly, Dan Welcher and David Gillingham. Recent concerts have included numerous pieces of original music for wind ensemble by prominent wind band composers.

The OSU Wind Ensemble’s reputation of excellence extends well beyond campus. Recent performances have included a concert tour in Japan; the College Band Directors National Association West/Northwest conference in Reno, Nevada; the All-Northwest Music Educators conference in Portland, Oregon; the Oregon Music Educators Conference in Eugene, Oregon; and Carnegie Hall in New York City. The group has recently finished its second commercial recording project with Mark Records and will soon be starting on a third recording project.

We Need Your Support!

Your contributions help to send OSU students on a once-in-a-lifetime experience to represent Oregon State University, the State of Oregon, and America as a whole to share our passion and dedication of music internationally. Your support is greatly appreciated!
