Randall Fox was pursuing a doctorate in Thermal Fluid Sciences in the mechanical engineering department at Oregon State University, commuting by bicycle 25 miles round-trip from Albany every day, and still somehow found time to be a member of the OSU Cycling Club.
Randall was a natural competitor. His collegiate racing career began during his undergrad studies at Oregon Tech, where he competed in cross country and track in addition to pursuing two bachelor's degrees. Unfortunately, injuries ultimately limited his ability to continue running. Randall was never one to be idle, however, and decided to try a new sport. Cycling soon became his new passion. In the fall of 2015 Randall joined the OSU Cycling Club, and in spring of 2016 he began racing with the team at the Northwest Collegiate Racing Conference. He was thrilled to be back in the racing scene.
Unfortunately, tragedy struck during the University of Washington road race in the middle of the season. Randall lost control of his bicycle during a descent and passed away due to medical complications from the accident.
To honor Randall’s memory, Randall's wife, Leslie, and the OSU Cycling Club are creating an academic scholarship in his name for cyclists on the OSU team who, like Randall, are both dedicated students and cyclists. Randall demonstrated a strong commitment to the cycling team by riding from Albany to Corvallis each weekend for team rides, spending time with young riders and fostering team growth by building a community. The Randall G. Fox Memorial Scholarship will continue his legacy on the team and honor the dedication and love Randall had for cycling, the team, and racing.
