Beaver BarCamp 2018

Share your Passion!

If we want to have a Beaver BarCamp 2018 we need your support. The Open Source Lab has typically been able to provide the logistics, the food, and free t-shirts for this annual event, but those funds are not available this year.

What is Beaver BarCamp?

Beaver BarCamp is an informal un-conference held in OSU’s Kelley Engineering Center, where everyone is encouraged to participate and the sessions are not predetermined. It provides an environment promoting the sharing of ideas and projects--and is a fun, casual event filled with discussions, demos and interaction with attendees. One of the best aspects of BarCamp is that attendees both provide the sessions and choose the schedule, allowing for greater flexibility and freedom. To be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 this year.

What kind of sessions happen at Beaver BarCamp?

All kinds--from the recreational to the technical. While many are tech oriented, we encourage any DIY, educational or interactive session.

Here are some examples of sessions in the past:

-Coffee Q & A: Learn to roast and brew from scratch

-Discuss Embedded Linux

-Let's build a NING website

-Poker Theory & Hold 'em Strategy

-Awful Interview Stories

-Virtual Reality: WebVR

Diverse

We encourage a wide range of topics. Food, art, technology, science, culture — the choice is yours.

Interactive

Sessions often include demos, discussions or projects, fostering audience participation

Who typically attends?

Open

Everyone is welcome to attend, and everyone can present. We invite all from the community, the state, and from OSU, to enjoy Beaver BarCamp. At BarCamp there are no spectators, only participants. Attendees are encouraged to demo new ideas, hold a group discussion on a specific topic, explain a unique hobby or just about anything else. Sometimes sessions even spawn other sessions randomly.

Support us and then register at beaverbarcamp18.eventbrite.com to attend!

Who we are:

The Open Source Lab (OSL) offers experiential learning for undergraduate students on real-world open source development and technology projects with organizations including Google, IBM, and Facebook. We work exclusively with open source technology, hosting over 150 projects including key infrastructure projects from the Linux Foundation, the Apache Software Foundation, the Python Software Foundation.

Our student employees receive mentorship from dedicated professionals who encourage and guide the students to take initiative to create, develop, and implement ideas of their own. The knowledge and skills our students gain from these experiences lead to internships and jobs with companies such as Amazon and Mozilla.

If you would like to become a regular donor for the OSL, please contact us at donations@osuosl.org.

Thank you for your support!
